Singin’ In the Rain

When the transition is being made from silent films to `talkies', everyone has trouble adapting. Don and Lina have been cast repeatedly as a romantic couple, but when their latest film is remade into a musical, only Don has the voice for the new singing part. After a lot of practice with a diction coach, Lina still sounds terrible, and Kathy, a bright young aspiring actress, is hired to record over her voice.

Cast List

Cast A

Larry Cochran (Cast A - Don Lockwood) is a three-time veteran of Broadway Senior shows with the Tulsa Performing Arts Center; having performed in Guys and Dolls, The Music Man, and Cinderella. Broadway musicals are his first loves, having performed in Finian’s Rainbow, My Fair Lady, The Mikado, Oliver!, Stop the World, I Want to Get off!, The Music Man again, and Guys and Dolls again! Larry is a retired administrator and Director of Learning Technology Services for Oklahoma State University in Tulsa, who was there for 16 years, along with 14 years of experience in Media and learning at Tulsa Community College. Larry and his late wife Deborah were married for 51 years, and have a son Drew, and a teenage granddaughter Savannah. Larry revels in this opportunity to perform again with his four year circle of friends in “Singin’ in the Rain!”

David Tracy (Cast A-Cosmo, Cast B-RF Simpson) David Tracy started singing in his church youth choir at age 8, unlocking a life-long love of music. He sings baritone with Tulsa Chorale. In the past 15 years with TC, David performed with the Tulsa Symphony, and sang choral works with various orchestras in Carnegie Hall, Greece, Italy, Austria, China, and Cuba. He performed in local choruses backing Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the Eagles, and Andrea Bocelli. When Tulsa Opera needed to supplement their chorus, David volunteered in productions of La Traviata, Aida, and Samson and Delilah.

This is David’s 4th season with Broadway Seniors. Past performances include Guys and Dolls (Nathan Detroit), Cinderella (King Christopher), and The Music Man (Harold Hill, Marcellus Washburn).  When he’s not hamming it up on stage, David practices family law in Tulsa. He and his wife Linda have 2 children and one grandchild.

Marsha Jones (Cast A-Kathy Selden)

Jacki Lechner (Cast A-Lina) is excited (but cautiously optimistic) to play her first leading lady role ever. She’s been enjoying smaller roles for the last 2 years and sharing the “stage” with much more talented folks (and now friends) in this Broadway Seniors group. Those musicals include The Music Man and Cinderella. Her love of theater began while growing up in Brooklyn (Coney Island), NY, attending shows in Manhattan with her mom, never thinking she’d see the theater from a different angle someday (70+ years later). But her NY roots give her the natural nasality and accent to play Lina Lamont without faking it.

Jacki is more accustomed to watching live musicals, plays, and events at the TPAC. TCC Van Trease, Tulsa Ballet, or other local venues while volunteering as an usher or support person when time allows. She splits that time with her love of (all forms of) dance; Ballroom, Square, Contra, Interpretive Praise, etc. This all when not working part time driving the medical truck for Good Samaritan Health Services (17 years), a local nonprofit that provides free healthcare for the uninsured or underserved. Prior to that, she worked in senior living centers as a Social Worker. She also loves animals, so she has side gigs as a Pet Sitter, or as Ms “PAC” Ma’am, helping folks declutter, organize, pack, etc. The word “bored” is not in her vocabulary.

Jacki thanks God for good health and energy plus the opportunity to use the gifts and talents He's provided, to share with others. She also thoroughly appreciates the opportunity, offered by the Orbit Arts program, to venture into this unknown realm of acting, singing, and dancing (with limited talent) while guided gently and mercifully by the faithful and hardworking director, Kimberly Wall. Her patience, enthusiasm, and joy help everyone rise to the level that most are skeptical can be achieved. Fortunately, the 8 months of preparation help to bring all efforts to a point where the audience enjoys and appreciates an hour of nostalgic entertainment. As her “fee-an-see” spoke for her…”We had fun making it and hope you had as much fun seeing it!”

We were all born with purpose so don’t die with the music still in you!

Debbie Clegg (Cast B-Kathy Selden)

Charlotte taught elementary music for forty-five years in the Jenks School District and inspired thousands of children in the arts.  In retirement, she has joined the Roma Berry Improv group, plays in a handbell choir and has taught music classes in Senior Living Communities. Charlotte is thankful for Broadway Seniors. It has given a 74 year old “gal” the chance to perform again and enjoy the sound of applause for a job well done.
